New China Medical Mission
March 13 - April 1, 2010

Introduction:

Volunteers are needed for medical mission to China (from 03-13 to 04-01). The activities in are supported by Thanksgiving Studio (TGS), a charity organization that had helped poor children in rural China for 10 years. They have three branches of work: helping orphans, poor students, and sick or disabled children.

The focus of our mission is medical. There are 3 weeks and each week a special group: advance party, main party and educational party.

1. Advance Party (3-15 to 20):

This is the first group to set things up. We also go to much rural area to see patients. Fit for our adventure type of volunteers.

2. Main Party (3-22 to 27):

Medical team and dental team will see patients with the support of a pharmacy team.
Clinical support team will in-process patients, translate, take photos, maintain flow, process referral information, and data entry. We will set up the free clinic at different schools each day.
Health Education Team will lecture local students on various health topics (same time as free clinic but different rooms of school).
Follow-up team: will bring patients to and from Guiyang for follow-up evaluation or treatments.
Local coordinator will also distribute the semi-annual scholarships and orphan’s fund at the free clinic.

Surgical team(3-22 to 27): will do surgery (pre-selected patients) in local county hospital.

3. Educational Party (3-29 to 31):

Doctors, surgeons, dentists, specialists and nurses will lecture the respective local medical personnel. Doctors may pre-select referral patients, and evaluate / treat them with the local doctors.

Length of mission depends on the free clinic and tour that you join. The preliminary schedule may change slightly to serve the locals better.

Expenses:

Cost of air fair is about $1,000. Visa: $160; food, hotel and transportation cost varies. These expenses can be tax deductible as volunteer expenses (consult your accountant for detail).

Tour:

Some members will have a short tour. These are not sponsored TGS.
