| AB 3 (Bass) – CA Physician Team Practice Improvement Act(Sponsor) |
Will eliminate many long-standing problems which burden our physician partners and provide barriers to our patients seeking our care. AB 3 specifically will address four major issues:
• Patient-Specific Authority for scheduled medications
• Ratios of Supervising Physician to Physician Assistant
• Chart Countersignature
• Medi-cal Covered Procedure Codes
Signed by the Governor on 10/10/07, became effective January 1, 2008.

| AB 139 (Bass) - DMV Physicals (Sponsor) |
Current law already allows clinically competent practitioners to conduct medical examinations on applicants seeking a class A, B and C license who primarily drive standard commercial vehicles. This bill clarifies an inconsistency in existing law and will allow physician assistants to conduct medical examinations on applicants seeking a license to drive a school bus, youth activity bus, farm labor vehicle and paratransit vehicles.
Signed by the Governor, became effective January 1, 2008 |
| AB 1429 (Evans) - HPV Immunization Coverage (Support) |
Deems every health care service plan and policy of health insurance, where there is coverage for treatment or surgery of cervical cancer, to include coverage for a Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, in accordance with the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

| SB 102 (Migden) – Blood Transfusions (Support) |
Current law states that when there is a possibility that a procedure may require a blood transfusion, the physician shall inform the patient of the positive and negative aspects of receiving autologous blood and directed and nondirected homologous blood from volunteers. This bill would allow that physician to perform that task through a physician assistant.
Signed by the Governor on 7/20/07 and became law effective January 1, 2008 |
