Optional Workshops

Splinting
An overview of splinting immobilization techniques for soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries. This workshop will provide for the participant a review of splint materials, selection of splint types and hands-on practice of application of splints to upper and lower extremities.

Basic Suturing
In this hands-on workshop, learn or review beginning suturing skills, including basic instrument handling and sterile technique, choice of suture material, and stitch selection. This is the ideal workshop for students or practitioners needing to learn basic technique or as a refresher. Workshop attendees may keep their suture kits.

Heart Sounds
Participants will learn about various abnormal heart sounds and hear the most common murmurs, clicks, gallops and snaps encountered. They will also review the cardiac auscultatory exam and what techniques can be used to improve the recognition of these abnormal heart sounds.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Recertification
Take your ACLS Recertification with fellow physician assistants in a fun, interactive course. Prior certification is required. Note: ACLS is a four-hour workshop. Those who wish to attend the ACLS workshop will not be able to attend any other workshops in Session 2 on Thursday.

Minor Surgical Procedures
Participants will review and practice minor surgical procedures commonly performed in an office setting, including shave/punch/excision biopsy, and skin lesion removal.

Advanced Suturing
This workshop is designed for those who are proficient in basic suturing skills. You will learn how to close the complicated wound by using corner stitches and subcutaneous stitches, how to do an elliptical closure and what to do with “dog ears.” No review of instruments, wound preparation, anesthesia or basic suturing will be done in this course. Workshop attendees may keep their suture kits.

Orthopedic Exam
Our most popular workshop – so sign up early! This workshop provides an in-depth, visual review of a good orthopedic exam, focusing on the major joints. Learn exam techniques to help narrow a differential diagnosis of common orthopedic complaints.

Joint Injection
Patient’s complaining of joint pain? Learn how to offer your patient pain relief by attending this workshop. The workshop focuses on the proper technique of a joint injection. You will learn the anatomical location on the major joints for an appropriate injection, skills you can utilize in your everyday practice
